Treats and Consequences:
It’s not a news flash that sugar is bad for children. What is eye-opening is just how unhealthy it may be, and how much of it children eat despite the health warning. While adults tend to be very watchful of their own sugar intake, many of them are not as vigilant when it comes to what their kids eat.
It’s not hard to see why kids love sugar. babies are born with a preference for it, naturally attracting them to mother’s milk, And this liking for sweet flavors continues into their teen years. As kids grow and consume different kinds of food salty sour bland, spicy their tastes typically broaden. But because so many foods marketed to kids are now super sweet, children may struggle to accept other flavors, such as the bitter taste of many green veggies. Sugar overload may prevent their taste buds from maturing. Kids won’t develop the ability to appreciate let along eat, a variety of foods.
Of course, not all sugar is evil. Fruits starchy veggies and milk all contain naturally occurring sugar, along with vital nutrients. Unfortunately, this isn’t the type of sugar kids usually eat, and the more supper sweet, processed foods they consume the less appealing “real” and naturally sweet foods seem. For example, a child who gets used to eating watermelon disappointing because it’s not like sugar.
Even if the effects of sugar overload don’t seem obvious now, they can hurt child’s health later. Eating too much of it can make kids gain weight, which then puts them at greater risk for diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol- three major contributors to heart disease. Studies have shown that the number of obese children in India increased drastically.
These health problems grow as the kids mature. When these problems develop in primary school instead of middle age the advanced stage of heart disease tends to occur earlier too. This means a child with high blood pressure could have a heart attack at 35. Blood pressure is the pressure of circulating blood on the walls of blood vessels. Blood pressure usually refers to the pressure in large arteries of the systemic circulation. High blood pressure, is a long-term medical condition in which the blood pressure in the arteries is persistently elevated.
